Minister Melvin Murphy, Minister of Music

Min. Melvin Murphy, songwriter, musician, director and singer; was born in Coy, Alabama and raised in Boston, Massachusetts.

Min. Murphy founded the New England Mass Workshop choir in 1985. The choir was popular in Massachusetts and recorded their first album in 1986. The majority of the songs were written by Min. Murphy.

In 2007 Min. Murphy recorded a live CD project at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA entitled “We Come To Praise Him.” This was one of the first live gospel recordings in Massachusetts. He has opened up for Al Green, Shirley Caesar, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise and so many other well-known gospel artists. Min. Murphy has also sang on stage along with Josh Groban and Country great Charlie Daniels.

Min. Melvin Murphy currently serves as the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Saugus, MA. He is also the Chapter representative for the Massachusetts Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America which was founded by The Rev. James Cleveland.

Minister Melvin Murphy is the Founder and director of the Higher Praise Gospel Choir. They are currently working on a new CD project that will be out during the late spring of 2015.
